    THIS IS A ZOOM WORKSHOP!

The Pennsylvania Council on the Arts' Arts in Education Program, in partnership with the Cultural Alliance of York County is offering a FREE Zoom class exclusively to York Art Association members!
This is a presentation by YAA member/instructor and PA Arts in Education teaching artist, Brett Greiman.

In this approximately 90 minutes hands-on session, we’ll explore how to use color to express emotion in your art as well as evoke an emotional response from the viewer. How have artists used color to draw in the viewer and make an emotional connection? The colors may not be what’s expected but rather, are an unexpected emotional interpretation. And that’s what makes them fascinating! We’ll first explore some basic knowledge of color contrasts and color harmonies then take a look at an historical perspective of color usage along with discussion and some hands on color explorations.

This program is limited to 20 YAA members so don’t wait to sign up!

TUITION: FREE FOR YAA MEMBERS, limited to 20 spaces.

Support for this experience is provided by the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts' Arts in Education Program, in partnership with the Cultural Alliance of York County .

Materials needed for class: Crayons or colored pencils, drawing paper, a color wheel.

*Registrants will be emailed a file for one of the exercises.

SEEING EXPRESSIVE COLOR for ALL MEDIUMS with Susan Nicholas Gephart, Fri & Sat 9:30-4pm

Discover how to see beyond the obvious within the landscape, and use expressive color to capture the essence of mood and atmosphere in sky, water, and more. Whether you work in pastel, oil, watercolor, or acrylic, you will learn to see the depth of color and create a unique and personally expressive painting.

Skilled in both pastel and oil, Susan is a seasoned plein air and studio painter that will lead you to your personal color expression in the medium of your choice. Each day will begin with a short demo focusing on methods that will aid in color expression. One afternoon session will deal with “How to prepare for Plein Air painting in the field”.

The use of underpainting and color mixing will be explored in both pastel and oil. “Thumbnail Sketches” and their importance in supporting strong compositions and values within color, will help you “Target Focus” on what inspires you in the landscape. There will be personal time at your easel following the morning demo, with support and attention given at each artist’s easel. Susan requires each student to contact her prior to this workshop! You may reach out by phone, 814-360-2116 or by email to: snicholasart@gmail.com. Learn more about the instructor, here.

Putting the WOW in WATERCOLOR WORKSHOP with Glenn Blue. Mon & Tues, 9:30-4
This 2 day event is like no other workshop. The goal for me is to have every attendee painting noticeably better upon completion. Much of what I teach you don’t get to hear or learn anywhere else. We will explore painting loose, painting detailed, painting less and painting more, discussing and trying the many ways to represent your topic in watercolor
    .
In my workshop I don’t intend to have the class complete paintings each day, rather I demonstrate and teach the class how to design and paint in a more interesting, impactful, fun and maybe simpler way.
In previous classes I quickly demonstrated or discussed countless ways to paint objects.  But this time I plan to slow down (just a little) and hone in on some of the most interesting techniques.

FACE IT! A Collage Workshop with Susan Davitti-Darling, Wed & Thurs 9:30-4

The combination of chance elements is what makes collage such a playful medium.  In this class we will turn our attention to the portrait and explore the figure in an improvisational way.  Realism is not the goal. Instead, the goal will be to make an expressive likeness and create more of the essence of someone.  Funky and fun are the words of the day!  We will be working from photographs and our imagination. Each student will bring in a photo of someone or just work directly without one. I will bring in a stash of old time photos that I have collected. These portraits or figures are meant to be simple and constructed with scissors, a glue stick, and matte medium. I will bring lots of collage materials to share.
