THE ROTTLER AWARD SELECTION EXHIBITION (JUN 8 - JULY 20)

The Rottler Award Selection Exhibition: A Legacy of Artistic Excellence

The Rottler Awards for Excellence in the Visual Arts were established through a generous bequest from E. Kurt Rottler, a former President and Treasurer of the York Art Association. In his will, Mr. Rottler directed that his gift be conservatively invested, with a portion of the annual income dedicated exclusively to recognizing and celebrating “excellence in the visual arts.”

To honor his legacy, the Rottler Award Selection Exhibition is held every other year to allow for a showcase exhibition of the winners the following year. This year, five members will be selected to receive this prestigious award, three in the professional category and two in the non-professional category. The selected winning artists are invited to participate in the Rottler Winners Exhibition the following year, highlighting their outstanding contributions to the visual arts.

THE CALL: To be considered, artists must be a member of YAA and submit 2 qualifying pieces of art.  Both works will be judged together as a representation of the artist's body of work. Works MUST BE created in the last 3 years and be of the artist's current or emerging style. There is no theme.

Previous Rottler Award recipients will not be eligible to enter the next TWO Selection Exhibitions following their win.

Artists must submit under one of the following conditions

PROFESSIONAL VS. NON-PROFESSIONAL:

YAA considers a professional artist as meeting any ONE of the following criteria:

  • Holds a professional degree in the fine arts or graduated from an art atelier program
  • regularly sells and exhibits works
  • has won an award in three YAA exhibitions (not including honorable mentions) or
  • provides classroom instruction in the fine arts.

New members who do not meet any of the above criteria for the professional designation may choose the category in which they would like to exhibit. If their status changes to meet any of these criteria they must use the professional designation.

There is no theme, so any genre or medium listed in the YAA terms and conditions is appropriate.

The five award winners are given the opportunity to share an exhibit contributing about 10 larger or up to 20 small pieces at YAA the following year.

AWARDS: Five awards of $500 each are given to three artists in the professional category and two in the non-professional category.
